Shifting from ‘Time Pass’’ to ‘Time Spend’
Uff God! Why on this earth is my day not getting over? Why is the time passing so slowly? This is a question which generally our young generation today keep on asking themselves. For some reason, it is getting difficult for them to spend/pass their whole day or should I say they are searching for some “time pass”! I have many times heard students using the word “lets attend the xyz session”or else “lets meet xyz person it feels good to be with him/her, will learn something and it will ‘pass’ our time also”.
There are two aspects in the above sentences, one is that the students are going somewhere, where they will get to learn something or gain knowledge but they perceive it as “Time pass” and another aspect is that even if they value the place /person and they know it will help them for learning, but they are so habituated to the word “time pass” that they do not even understand the difference between “spending time” and merely “passing” it.
As we know, each letter forms a word, and how these words impact our thoughts and feelings. So, naturally it follows that we need to consciously understand the difference between these two words.
When we say “time pass” for any task, our subconscious mind gets a suggestion that I am not going to pick up any result out of it and when I say “Time spend” our subconscious mind is ready to pick out everything that seems productive/useful. The word Productive does not always mean to get some learnings or materialistic gains; it could be anything which would make us feel good or can lead us to a peaceful sleep. (Check! What do I feel before going to bed, did I only “pass” my day or “spent” at least some portion of the day.)
Friends, with this article I want to say that even if we choose these two words with consciousawareness we can truly be aware of the quality of our time. I would like to clarify here that passing time is not a crime but understanding the difference between these concepts is truly essential.
Let’s discuss some solutions to be away from this “time pass” trap.
Be aware of the fact that whichever task/ talk I am “choosing” is it a “time pass” or “time spend”.
Make it a habit of using the word “ time spend” more even if you know that the same task I chose now use to be a time pass for me before.
Keep a watch on the whole day’s activity and push the maximum part of your time under the category of “time spend”.
Every day make a checklist of “things to do”, prioritize it before starting your day and before going to bed tick the checklist to know the achieved targets. Finally I will sum-up by quoting a very well known statement –” Time is money, so...spend it wisely.”
